Portioned breads are becoming popular, but they are still a long way from Scandinavian habits

Portioned breads are increasingly appearing in the shopping cart – their consumption has increased by 12 percent over the past year. However, this product has not yet reached the level of popularity in Scandinavia, where it is one of the favorite bread formats. However, on store shelves, the choice of this category is growing every year. In autumn, Vilniaus Duona introduced new portioned breads – Toste Oat Power and Toste Golden Bite.

Portioned breads for the city buyer

According to Aurimas Matikonis, Sales Manager of Vilniaus Duona, these recipes have been developed in response to the needs of consumers.

"Portioned breads have a lot of potential, because they solve two issues at once. First of all, convenience. Both their shape and size are convenient for sandwiches, and the rounded edges help keep their shape even with the addition of ingredients or seasonings in abundance. Secondly, food conservation. It is no secret that many households simply throw away some of their bread. Smaller packaging helps to solve this problem of food waste," says Aurimas.

All "Toste" portioned breads can also be frozen. After pulling out the required portion, it is convenient and quick to defrost them in the toaster. It also helps to reduce food waste and eat all the bread you buy to the crumb.

Encourages the inclusion of oats in the diet

Increasingly, health-conscious shoppers are looking for bread that is not only tasty, but also contains health-promoting substances – rich in protein and fiber, which help maintain a feeling of satiety and good digestion.

That's exactly what Toste Oat Power is all about – portioned breads with whole grain oats, designed for a modern, agile rhythm of life.

It's a healthier snack option that's suitable for both breakfast and a busy day when you want a quick but nutritious snack.

Due to their high protein content and abundance of fiber, these breads are especially suitable for those who take care of their well-being, activity and body lines.

For rye bread lovers

Rye bread lovers had practically no choice of portioned packaged breads on the market. A year and a half ago, we offered them rye portioned bread – 83 percent rye in Toste.

This package contains 4 halved portioned breads, extremely thin slices. They go deliciously with all the ingredients and condiments of sandwiches, usually combined with rye bread - only in an even more convenient form.

As much as 83 percent of the composition of the product consists of rye flour (and a quarter of it is germinated). Two sandwiches contain half the daily norm of fiber.

Fiber is the broom of our intestines. These are complex carbohydrates of plant origin that are extremely important for our health. They help regulate digestion, support intestinal peristalsis, lower cholesterol levels, improve glucose control and improve the microbiota.

Nutritionists notice that the population does not eat enough fiber. For comparison, 100 g of carrots or apples contain five times less fiber than whole grain bread (about 2.5 g), so whole grain products are probably the most effective way to replenish fiber reserves in your body on a regular basis.

Protein source breads

Seeds are also a charge of fiber. Sunflower seeds for our geographical region are a great way to supplement your diet with plant-based proteins, healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants. A small handful (about 30 g) daily can make a significant contribution to heart, nervous system and intestinal health.

That's why we've included them in our Toste Golden Bite recipe. These portioned breads are extremely rich in protein (13 g/100 g) and are a source of fibre (6.9 g/100 g). Extremely soft and fluffy, and even more delicious they become roasted.

Packaging – attractive colours and transparent

As Jolita Ažusienė, Head of Brand Communication at Vilniaus Duona, said, when launching a new product on the market, product packaging plays no less a role than the recipe.

"When it comes to bread packaging, consumers want the product inside to be clearly visible, pleasant to the touch, so that they can touch whether the bread is soft, and also that it can be closed repeatedly, because most buyers keep the bread in the same package in which they bought it. Visual attractiveness is also extremely important – the buyer of the bread category chooses from several dozen types of bread in supermarkets, so it is important to quickly catch his eye," emphasizes Jolita

In the group of portioned breads

Currently, the buyer of Vilniaus Duona can buy six types of portioned bread in supermarkets. The aforementioned innovations have been added to the already present in our product basket Toste 83% rye, Toste breads with grains and Toste whole grain breads and Kakė makė breads.

After choosing the desired taste, portioned breads are convenient to use for sandwiches, lunch boxes or children's boxes to school.
