What is dietary fiber?
Fiber is a carbohydrate found in plant products. Dietary fiber is not digested, so it performs a cleansing function. They also feed the good bacteria in the intestine, the microbiota, which are beneficial for the entire immune system.
The microbiota produces certain vitamins, helps the digestive process and well-being. At the same time, fiber slows down the digestive process, so we feel full longer when consuming high-fiber foods.
On average, an adult is recommended to get 25 - 35g of fiber per day. However, statistically, a Lithuanian citizen consumes only half of this amount or even less.
