Vilniaus Duona has changed its logistics model in Kaunas region. The company used one logistics partner and handed over not only distribution, but also order picking to him. From now on, it will make it easier to manage deliveries for more than 300 customers in this region.

This is a pilot project within the Lantmannen Unibake group of companies. After evaluating its results, similar changes will be considered to be implemented in other countries as well.

"The main goal was to improve delivery time and accuracy. We work with fresh short-life baked goods, so it is extremely important for retail chains and stores to receive them at the agreed time. We completed the project in February and after it started within a month, we can already see that the delivery process is going smoothly and expeditiously. The big holidays – Christmas, Easter, St. John's Day, which used to cause a stir – will be welcomed more calmly this year," said Marius Žikevičius, Logistics Director for the Baltics at Lantmannen Unibake, who led this project.

Latvian warehouse logistics have also been moved to Panevėžys

According to M. Žikevičius, the project is related to another one – the relocation of the distribution warehouse of the sister company in Latvia to Panevėžys.

"In order to be able to transfer the distribution flows to Panevėžys, we had to find a way to free up forces here. For this purpose, we used one logistics partner – Baltic Logistic Solutions. The biggest challenge is the effective integration of IT systems, which would help to quickly exchange optimal data and generate and complete customer orders. Therefore, both Vilniaus Duona and BLS IT departments worked on this," said the Director of Logistics and Service.

The partner will provide transport and picking services

The logistics distribution partner Baltic Logistic Solutions, unlike before, performs not only distribution and delivery service, but also order picking. For this, it was necessary to adapt and harmonize information systems, as well as the internal processes of companies.

"We are glad that we can offer our partner our company's long-term and impressive experience in the field of third-party logistics and IT integration, thus helping to achieve the goals set by the customer," said Erik Lesnevskis, Commercial Manager of Baltic Logistic Solutions.

Helps to work more sustainably

M. Žikevičius also emphasized that this decision also contributes to the company's sustainability obligations. The logistics company Baltic logistic solutions manages a new fleet of vehicles, the average age of which does not exceed 4 years and meets the EURO 6 emission standard. The company also invests in solar energy, the capacity of which is 4.13 MWp.

In addition, the vehicles will transport not only the products of Vilniaus Duona, but also other manufacturers, which will help to reduce transport costs and environmental impact.

M. Žikevičius would like to thank the entire team that worked on the project, especially all the colleagues from the IT, logistics, finance and sales departments who worked on this project.
