Even the ballpoint pens in our bakeries are not ordinary ballpoint pens. They are the kind that a detector that scans bread loaves is able to capture.

Thisis just one of the many things we do in Vilniaus Duona bakeries to ensure that bread arrives on the Lithuanian table in a high-quality and safe way.

✅ Every item in the bakery is counted and marked.

✅ No items are brought into the bakeries except water bottles.

✅ All clothing is safe clothing. To prevent any foreign body from getting into the bread, we remove jewelry and earrings (however, it is allowed to keep the wedding ring).

✅We put on special clothing, a bathrobe, overshoes and a headdress. For the mustache and beard, by the way, we also put on covers (not all of them are clear, only who grows 🙂 them

Throughout this week, Vilniaus Duona bakeries in Panevėžys and Vilnius are celebrating Food Safety Day with various initiatives, which is celebrated worldwide on June 7.

"Every day, we bake almost a quarter of a million products for the Lithuanian table, so we feel a great responsibility. Products must reach people safely and of high quality. Buyers do not feel this process and, I think, many have no idea how intensive control measures and how many different processes there are to ensure product safety in the food company," – Viktorija Lėgaudaitė-Lydekaitienė, Quality Manager at Vilniaus Duona.

Viktorija emphasizes that we ensure safety throughout the chain – from grain to table, as evidenced by the BRC certificates held in the company. But according to Viktorija, there is one thing more important than certificates.

"The most important thing is when the culture of food safety is a part of you: when you do what is right even when no one can see," Viktorija concludes.
