Health benefits of bread
Wheat bread is the most popular Lithuanian food that has the longest tradition in the country. Besides, it is delicious and healthy. Every day we live faster, forgetting to pamper our stomach with well-balanced, healthy products that help women cherish their body and men… well, just feel better every day.
Recommendations for healthy nutrition are exceptionally clearly reflected by the nutrition pyramid.

According to specialists, this pyramid has been designed to help select food products that are important and necessary parts of healthy nutrition and to choose the right quantity of food from all product groups.
The foundation of the pyramid is composed of cereal products (bread, grain, potatoes and the related products) that specialists recommend eating most. We should get half of the energy consumed in one day from this group of products.
Bread is a coffer of vitamins and hence should be consumed daily. Bread is most rich in vitamins of B and E groups, vitamin PP as well as calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron. Grain proteins contain all of the essential amino acids, grains have a high content of minerals, trace elements and vitamins.
Although nutritionist advice is gaining increasing popularity and importance, it is important that one does not forget that to at least some extent we can take care of our diet ourselves.
Based on the recommendations for healthy nutrition by nutrition specialists and dieticians, the recommended daily allowance for women is 2,000 kcal of energy. The value is slightly higher for men. So, a woman of an average build should consume 50 g of proteins, 270 g of carbohydrates and 70 g of fat per day. The package of each product of Vilniaus Duona provides information as to what percentage of the recommended daily allowance we will get from eating a slice of the bread. For comparison, we hereby provide a table of the essential substances that 100 g of different types of bread hold.
| Food product | Energy value kJ/kcal | Proteins | Fat | Carbohydrates |

The taste of bread and its other nutritional properties depend on the type of flour and other ingredients (grain) used. The richer the constitution of bread, the bigger are its nutritional and biological values. For instance, rye bread is more valuable than wheat one as it contains more fibre, vitamins and trace elements.
So, eating bread equals filling in on energy. To eat bread is to strengthen one’s body, putting off old age. To eat bread is to enjoy simple things!
